About Katie

I am an Advancer Practitioner in Social Work practising at Consultant level over the last decade. I am a Best Interests Assessor with 20 years of experience across health and social care. Since qualifying with a master’s degree in social work in 2014, I have developed an advanced, trauma-informed integrative practice that draws on a wide range of approaches, including social work theory, mindfulness, nervous system regulation, relationship-based practice, solution-focused techniques, and motivational interviewing and coaching. This allows me to tailor my work to the unique needs, strengths, and circumstances of each individual. I meet you wherever you are, at whatever stage of life you are at.

My practice is grounded in a deep commitment to holding space for you and understanding the systems around you, sometimes referred to as the ecological model. My practice is underpinned by my values and ethics, including social justice, human rights, and anti-oppressive, anti-discriminatory principles. Over the years, I have supported people experiencing homelessness, those in the prison system, people affected by addiction, individuals with mental health needs, learning disabilities and difficulties, neurodivergent people, younger people transitioning from children’s to adult social care (preparing for adulthood), as well as older adults and individuals with physical disabilities. I also bring experience in advocacy through my role as Relevant Persons Representative, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.

I specialise in both long-term case management and short-term interventions, offering advice, signposting, and guidance to help people, and those who support them, navigate complex situations with confidence and clarity. I also support with matters pertaining to Education Tribunals, the Court of Protection, and Family Court. I have a particular professional interest in mental capacity and deprivation of liberty.
